Mission Completed

Yeah! The downstairs playroom is tidy again!

I have left a few toys out for the kids to play with and have stored the rest away in the closet under the stairs (and it's now equipped with a lock!).

I am very happy with myself for having taken complete control...sounds ridiculous - I know.

Today, I have plans to clean the house, do laundry, bake, and also wrap one present with the kids (that's for their cousin).

I think I might send the kids out to our fenced backyard for a while too so that I can give them some fresh air and exercise while also giving my nerves a break. I swear there is something in the air AND the water today because my kids are on super-hyper mode...what's up with that?!*

Tonight is random paperwork & knitting...I know what you're thinking....whoa! slow down party girl!!

My husband's family is coming here for brunch on Boxing Day (December 26th) so I'll also be planning/shopping for the needed menu items.

That's about it for today!

Clean Up - Clear Out...

Well, today is the day that I clean up our downstairs playroom.

We get rid of older toys that the children no longer play with in order to make room for new ones that Santa will be bringing shortly.

The room looks like Mattel, Hasbro, and the likes exploded...there are toys wall-to-wall...ugh!

Here goes...wish me luck!

Today the sweet & spicy smell of gingerbread will fill the air...

of our home.

The kids are really looking forward to making gingerbread cut-outs and watching them bake in the oven.

I have such fond memories of doing the same when I was a young girl in my Mom's kitchen.

There is something so wonderful and comforting in baking; especially when it's a mother with her children.

I always find the decorating part the most interesting; to see how many candies make it to the gingerbread and not into the mouths of my children!

We decorated the tree last week with 'White Christmas' playing on tv (a family tradition that I've carried on). The kids truly love this movie as much as I do...it makes my heart melt just thinking of it.

The only issue with the tree is that the decorating is never "fully" complete...the kids have this irresistable urge to keep rearranging the ornaments - luckily, only one has suffered damage.

I can still clearly remember the magic in the air you feel as a child at this time of year (truth be told, I think I still have it just as strong).

I love the holidays and everything it represents: family, love, compassion, giving...
If only we all lived every day like this.

Hope you are all planning on enjoying a holiday season filled with friends, family & fun!

Have a great weekend!
